John Miles
Dr. Miles began his academic career at Rutgers University, completing a Bachelor's degree and continued at the University of Minnesota to complete his Master's degree. His professional career began in product and process development at T.J. Lipton, Inc. before joining North Carolina State University as the Aseptic Plant Manager. He became a project engineer helping to establish the Center for Aseptic Processing and Packaging Studies (CAPPS), and working closely with its industrial representatives and university researchers. He received his Ph.D. in Food Science, and authored numerous publications and presentations relevant to aseptic and continuous thermal processing during this period. His company, MicroThermics®, was established to address the challenges of developing products for UHT, aseptic, and other continuous thermal processes. Today, MicroThermics has over 1,000 installation systems worldwide working with processes from pasteurization to sterilization and products ranging from simple beverages to biotech and pharmaceutical materials. In 2011, MicroThermics, Inc. was recognized with the Institute of Food Technologists Industrial Achievement Award for their impact on food manufacture and research and development. Dr. Miles is also recognized as an outstanding alumnus of North Carolina State University.
