Tim Barnett is the New Food Technical Director at GEA Systems North America, based in Wisconsin, where he leads the Application & Technology Center (ATC) — a pilot-scale facility supporting precision fermentation, cell cultivation, and downstream bioprocessing for the emerging alternative protein industry. With over 15 years at GEA spanning aseptic liquid processing, microbial fermentation, and beverage applications engineering, Tim was principally responsible for transforming the ATC from concept to a fully operational $25 million Center of Excellence. Originally trained in biotechnology, he began his career in industrial yeast fermentation, including international assignments supporting the build of a greenfield yeast factory. Today, Tim partners with multinational food companies and emerging biotech start-ups to de-risk commercialization pathways from lab-scale fermentation through industrial-scale and downstream processing.
